CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - Police are investigating an incident where five young adults fell into the water while trying to cross the Appomattox River, just south of Virginia State University, around 1:30 a.m.

Three people were pulled from the water, but two are still missing.

Chesterfield's dive team was called out to help rescue, but the search was called off due to dark conditions.  The search will continue between 8 and 9 a.m.

Virginia State University, Petersburg, Chesterfield and Colonial Heights Police and Fire officials responded to the incident.

Hypothermia is a concern because the water is thought to be below 50 degrees.
