Chesterfield men killed in head-on wreck on I-64

NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - Virginia State Police identified two Chesterfield men as the victims of a deadly head-on crash that closed Interstate 64 westbound in New Kent County Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

State Police said the driver of a 2004 Honda CRV, 54-year-old James E. Fred, was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-64.

Fred's Honda struck a 1996 Ford Ranger head-on.

Both Fred and the driver of the Ford Ranger, identified as 47-year-old John J. Keesler, died.

Both drivers were wearing their safety belts, police said. The crash remains under investigation.

The crash closed westbound I-64 in New Kent near the West Point exit for Route 33 just after 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, All westbound lanes of I-64 reopened as of 3:15 a.m. Wednesday morning.
