ARLINGTON, Va. (WTVR) – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) released details about a situation that involved a Richmond man and a gun.

TSA spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein said TSA officers at Reagan Washington National Airport saw the loaded gun in the Richmond man’s carry-on bag as it went through an x-ray machine on Friday. Officers took the weapon and charged the man on a state weapons charge.

The man was allowed to catch his flight to Chicago, minus his gun. The TSA said the man was carrying a .38 caliber handgun loaded with 11 rounds.

Passengers are not allowed to carry guns in carry-on baggage. Travelers can be fined up to $11,000 if they are caught with a gun at the airport.
