Scripps Media heir convicted for embezzling to fund lavish lifestyle

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (CNN) — An heir to the Scripps Media fortune was convicted Friday by a federal jury for embezzling $3.6 million from members of his family to fund his lavish lifestyle, a federal prosecutor said.

Michael Scripps, 36, of Detroit, was convicted of all seven counts of wire fraud he faced in an indictment after three days of jury deliberations, said U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman of New Jersey. The trial last following a week and a half.

The case was prosecuted in Philadelphia by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
