BELARUS — Beavers are known for their dams and wood-chopping abilities, but news of a fatal beaver attack has many people realizing for the first time that these animals, which are only about the size of a large cat, are dangerous and potentially lethal.

In Belarus, a man and his friend were walking when they spotted a beaver and approached it to take a picture.

The beaver turned on the man, jumping on him, biting his leg and severing an artery. The man’s friend tried to stop the bleeding but the man died from blood loss.

This video below is the actual video the man was shooting at the time of his attack. WARNING: It may be disturbing to some viewers.

Beavers are among the largest rodents in Missouri and Kansas. This story from Belarus is a reminder to be cautious if you are near one. Female beavers bear a litter of 3-4 kits in April, May or June, so during this time they may be especially sensitive to humans approaching them.
