RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – As expected, Wednesday was a record hot one across the Mid-Atlantic, including for Richmond. A strong upper-level ridge over us and associated surface high pressure region southeast of us in the Atlantic pumped warm air in from the south and southwest, kept skies mostly sunny, and allowing afternoon temperatures to surge into the upper 80s and low 90s.
Richmond set a new record high temperature for April 10 at Richmond International Airport, with a reported high temperature of 91 degrees. This breaks the previous record high for April 10 of 88 degrees from 1922.
Other new record highs were set at:
Reagan National in D.C.: 91 degrees (broke a 1922 record)
Baltimore, MD: 91 degrees (broke a 1922 record)
Lynchburg, VA: 91 degrees (broke a 1922 record)
Roanoke, VA: 90 degrees (broke a 1922 record)
Washington Dulles: 89 degrees (broke a 1992 record)
Norfolk, VA: 89 degrees (broke a 1922 record)
Wallops Island, VA: 88 degrees (broke a 1992 record)
Blacksburg, VA: 83 degrees (broke a 2011 record)
This is Richmond’s first 90-degree-day of 2013. The most recent time Richmond was in the 90s was September 1 and 2 of 2012.
