(WTVR) — That pounding headache that just won’t go away, the unrelenting churning in your stomach– these and other symptoms are commonly associated with a hangover.

Now researchers said an old wive’s tale remedy may actually work well.

It’s called Yak-a-Mein Soup, a traditional New Orleans street food that many have sworn by to sober up.

The Spicy Noodle Soup is made with salty beef and soy broth, noodles, beef, chicken or shrimp, along with chopped scallions and a hard-boiled egg.

One scientist says all of the ingredients help relieve hangover symptoms. She says the egg removes the buildup of a toxic byproduct  that triggers the tremors, sweating, and vomiting.

The salts in the broth help to replace the sodium and potassium lost through urine, according to the researcher.

The research was presented this week at the American Chemical Society’s annual meeting.
