NELSON COUNTY Va. (WTVR) – A Liberty University student was killed when she slipped and fell down Crabtree Falls, according to Nelson County Sheriff’s investigator Billy Mays.

Mays said Faith Helbig, 18, of New Jersey, died Monday while hiking with friends. He said it appeared Helbig slipped on wet rocks while in an area off the designated hiking trail.

“It is a beautiful but dangerous place,” Mays said when describing the tourist attraction. “It’s important to adhere to the safety signs.”

WSET-TV reported Helbig fell 200 feet to her death. WCAV in Charlottesville reported more than two dozens people have died at Crabtree Falls.
