HENRICO COUNTY, Va (WTVR) -- Henrico County officials are still trying to figure out ways to get on better financial footing.  Already Henrico has cut more than $115 million in expenses over the past four years after closing an $18.5 million budget gap for fiscal year 2013-14.

Tonight residents are invited to come out to a 6 p.m. meeting to voice their concerns about any budget plans.

As it stands the proposed budget recommends no change to the real estate tax rate of 87 cents per $100 of assessed home value.  But the real estate tax is not in the clear just yet.  When Henrico County voters head to the polls in November they are being asked to approve a meals tax.  If the tax is not given the go-ahead, county officials are concerned the real estate tax may have to be raised by as much as six cents per $100 of assessed value to support the multi-million dollar 2013-2014 budget shortfall.

The proposed budget also recommends a general fund of $747 million for operations of Henrico’s general government.  The general fund includes police, fire and the county's school system.

Today's budget meeting is scheduled to take place inside the Board Room at the Henrico Government Center, located at 4301 E. Parham Road.  After which the Board of Supervisors is set to vote on a budget for fiscal year 2013-2014 on April 23.
