UPDATE: Victim’s family left without answers after suspect’s death

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Va (WTVR) -- Police found the person of interest in a Chester woman's murder at a cemetery in Cumberland County.

Chesterfield police said in a news release late Thursday that Lloyd Edward Warren Jr. was found by detectives working with the Cumberland County Sherriff's Office.

Police said a  2009 Nissan Altima was discovered in a remote cemetery on Jefferson Road. As officers approached the vehicle, Warren Jr. was found inside suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Warren was pronounced dead at the scene just after EMS crews arrived.

Now Virginia State Police are investigating his death.

Police called the 46-year-old a person of interest in the death of 42-year-old Dr. Madalyn Carey.

Carey, a Chester woman, was shot to death before her body was discovered inside her burned home.

Investigators said Warren was sharing the Duxton Drive home with Carey at the time of her death.  CBS 6 uncovered court records showing Warren’s past riddled with violence.

Students, faculty and friends gathered on the campus of Virginia College on Wednesday to remembered their beloved teacher.

“She was like another mother to everybody, she planted a lot of seeds in this school,” said  student Erick Mcrae.
