For its 23rd annual art auction, MIXOLOGY, the 1708 Gallery welcomes acclaimed street artist Shepard Fairey.

Fairey will be the honorary chair of the auction, which takes place Saturday, April 6. If you can’t make it but want to meet Fairey, he will be at 1708 Gallery from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Friday.

Even better, you can buy a screenprint made exclusively for this event by Fairey.  The print is signed, and is entitled Station to Station-Virginia and costs $75.

His path to a globally-known artist dates back to the 80s and the timeline has a lot of interesting stops and accomplishments along the way. ANDREW THE GIANT HAS A POSSE is one of his earliest iconic works.

The HOPE sticker designed for the 2008 election fully catapulted him into the mainstream, but he was mostly already there. Fairey runs a clothing line OBEY that is peddled at some Nordstroms, along with other locations.

He isn’t without critics, but what famous person isn’t? That said, you can read more about him here.

MIXOLOGY will include live and silent art auctions, that feature a diverse group of the area’s most exceptional and respected artists, in addition to original works by Shepard Fairey and raffle prizes.

The annual art auction raises money to provide support for 1708’s exhibitions and educational programs.
