CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) -- Emergency crews have responded after a contractor was hit by a tree in Matoaca.

Lt. Jason Elmore, with Chesterfield Fire and EMS, said it happened in the 7400 block of Pickhurst Court just before 11 a.m. Wednesday.

CBS 6 senior reporter Wayne Covil said a neighbor brought over a tractor after the tree fell on the man. However, the tree was too heavy for the tractor to fully remove, but it was able to lift up the tree.

Once Chesterfield fire crews arrived, they used airbag technology to stabilize and finish lifting the tree off the victim.

The man was taken to VCU Medical Center by ambulance where he is listed in stable condition.
