Louisville basketball player Kevin Ware is up and recovering in the hospital.

Ware broke his leg during a crucial game against Duke last night, that led the team to the Final Four.

University of Louisville President James Ramsey says Ware hopes to cheer on his team in Atlanta for the Final Four.

"Our thoughts are with Kevin Ware.  I have had a chance to talk to Kevin this morning.  After the game we were going to go by the hospital but they indicated he'd be in surgery so we came on back.  But when I talked to Kevin this morning, he was up, he was on crutches.  So they already have him moving around.  He hopes to be back on campus tomorrow.  And when I asked him if he thought he'd be able to go to Atlanta, he said, I got to be in Atlanta.  So I think he'll do whatever he can to be back home and be with the team this weekend."

Ware's right tibia, or shinbone, broke through the skin in what's called an open or compound fracture.

An orthopedic surgeon not involved in the case says it may take six months to a year for Ware to get back on the court.

The Louisville game will air on CBS 6 at 6:09 p.m. on Saturday, April 6. They play the Witchita State Shockers. The second game, between Michigan and Syracuse, is at 8:49 p.m. Saturday.
