CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) -- A group of students marched to Thursday night’s Chesterfield County School Board meeting to send leaders a message.

Students and parents associated with Thomas Dale High School’s band program do not want to lose David Holley, the school’s band director. They already have an online petition going with more than 1,000 signatures, including alumni.

“Music is one of the only things we have to express ourselves. Mr. Holley and Mr. Barton, both of them have personalities that just click and with one of them out, it's just not the same,” says Rebecca Balint.

Supporters are fearful Holley could be moved to another schools because of changing enrollment. Chesterfield school leaders wouldn’t comment on this personnel matter, but say, staff reassignments take place every year based on projected growth at particular schools.

The group said Holley is crucial to Chesterfield’s Visual and Performing Arts Specialty Center located at Thomas Dale.
