DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) -- A tradition that has spanned more than a century in Spain is coming to Dinwiddie County.

The Great Bull Run at  the Virginia Motorsports Park is expected to draw thousands this summer.

"They'll run down the quarter-mile," said Virginia Motorsports Park's Bryan Pierce. "They'll be area for them to exit over the wall if they need to -- or get out of the way of the bulls."

While high-powered cars regularly go down the quarter-mile strip, thousands will be running down the drag strip with the bulls on Aug. 24. And it's the first time an event of this size has been held in the U.S.

Joe Pete Wells, a former Mid-Atlantic Amateur Bull Riding Champion, said he's a bit skeptical.

"If that's what you need to do to get an adrenaline rush, you got a problem," Wells said.  "You get a group together of bulls and... you might have some that really don't want to be at the drag strip -- and you might have a serious problem."

However, county leaders are hopeful since the event is expected to draw so many people to the area.

"While they're here, they're surely to stop in our restaurants as well as some of the other businesses operating, so its good for the community," said Dinwiddie County Administrator Kevin Massengill.
