ARLINGTON, Va. (WTVR) – A Virginia bus stop with a $1,000,000 price tag drew so much criticism the county it’s located in is now review plans to build 23 more.

In response to the complaints Arlington decided to review design plans for other stops to reduce costs.

In its own defense, it says the stops are an investment in the future of transportation.

So what do you get for a one million dollar bus stop?

  • Real-time schedule that tells you which bus is coming next
  • Heaters to keep the bus stop platform from freezing
  • Larger overhang shelters to protect waiting passengers
  • Higher sidewalks that allow two buses to board at one time

The stop cost Arlington $575,000 to build and another $440,000 to manage and inspect. Arlington plans to build an additional 23 similar bus stops.
