VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WTKR) -- If you've been to Virginia Beach recently, you may have seen someone other than tourists lounging on the beach.

In fact, a seal has been seen popping up in several different spots along the oceanfront over the last few days.

Experts said it is perfectly normal for the seal to partake in a bit of a change of scenery -- and hang out for a bit.

The Virginia Aquarium Stranding Response Team evaluated the seal and said the animal seems healthy, but that they will observe it for the next 21 to 48 hours.

The team reminded the public that the seal is a wild animal and it should not be approached by people -- or pets. If you spot a seal, please keep a safe distance and call authorities.
