CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - Police are looking for a group of vandals who spray painted racial slurs and set fire to a Chesterfield home. Vandals targeted a house on Little Ridge Court off Newby’s Bridge Road on Friday.

A family member, who declined to be identified, said he woke up to the sound of his barking dog.

"I looked outside the window and I see smoke coming from the porch," the family member said.  "Then, I was like, I knew something was going on.  Then, I ran downstairs."

He opened the door and saw the flames.

"I tried to put it out and called my dad to see what's going on," he said.  "I got most of the fire out."

He said someone spray-painted racial slurs on the house and set fire to the family's car, but he doesn't know why.

"I have no idea," he said.  "We really have no enemies."

Family members said they have lived at the house for three years without any problems. Neighbors said investigators canvassed the block, knocking on doors to get more information.

"They're very nice people," neighbor Paula Lang said.  "They didn't deserve this.  Nobody deserves it."

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Chesterfield Crimesolvers at 748-0660.
