(CNN) — A suspect in Wednesday’s shooting deaths of four people in upstate New York is dead after he and law enforcement exchanged gunfire in an abandoned building where he was hiding Thursday morning, New York State Police spokesman Lt. Jack Keller said.

Kurt R. Myers, 64, was dead after he and an FBI tactical team that had entered the building fired shots, Keller said. An FBI dog that entered the building ahead of the team also was killed, according to Keller.

Myers is suspected of killing four people and injuring two others in a 10-minute shooting spree in Herkimer County, New York, on Wednesday morning, state police said. He also is believed to have blown up his house, according to a federal law enforcement source briefed on the investigation.

CNN’s Deborah Feyerick contributed to this report.
