Another strong winter storm will hit the nation’s mid-section on Monday with snow and a wintry mix, with severe weather possible again across the Deep South.

This storm will arrive in our area on Tuesday morning, perhaps just in time for the morning rush.  For much of the area, it will be rain, but a wintry mix will be possible for the western third of the state.

The best threat for a minor accumulation of snow, sleet and freezing rain will be along the interstate 81 corridor.  Most of this area will see the precipitation switch to plain rain by the afternoon.

Areas well west of interstate 95, like Charlottesville and Lynchburg, could see a brief wintry mix early Tuesday morning before quickly changing to plain rain.  Little or no wintry accumulation should occur.

For the rest of the Commonwealth, it will start as just a cold rain.  A surge of warmer air will arrive late in the day, with highs southeast of the metro reaching the 50s towards evening.

Everyone should see some significant rainfall by the time the rain tapers off Tuesday night.  The potential exists for over an inch of rain in some areas.

There could be a passing shower or a few snowflakes Wednesday and Thursday, but nothing organized or significant.
