HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) -- Three teenagers are facing prison time after being found guilty in the murder of a 16-year-old Atlee High School student.

Brett Wells was killed inside his Mechanicsville home in January of 2012.

De’von Byars, 19, Kevin Drayton Jr., 18, and Xavia Highsmith, 18, were convicted of Wells' murder in October.

Prosecutors said the teens carried out an elaborate plan to rob Wells inside his home on Verdi Lane and steal four ounces of marijuana.

One of Wells' friends was also shot in the hand outside the home after prosecutors say he attempted to stop the suspects.

However, defense attorneys maintained that the teens were armed and intended to steal marijuana from Wells, but said that the shootings were not pre-meditated.

The teens are scheduled to be sentenced at the Hanover Courthouse Monday at 9 a.m.
