The nation’s 39th president says he has no relationship with its 44th.

Jimmy Carter wishes he were closer to President Obama.

He talked about it in an interview with CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight,” set to air tonight.

Carter said he met President Obama earlier in his administration, but that they don’t have a relationship. While Carter endorsed Obama during his 2012 bid for re-election, he hasn’t always spoken favorably about his fellow Democrat.

He harshly criticized Obama’s administration in an interview with the New York Times, describing his U.S. government policy as “a rapid withdrawal from any kind of controversy.”
