HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR)--Henrico County has 71 public schools and at every one, security and safety are always a top priority, say a spokesman.

Now the school system is in the process of spending $400,000 dollars to make upgrades.

Some are simple, like changing out exterior doors to make schools more secure. Other changes include adding key pads for easy access by faculty.

The changes come as part of an ongoing process to make schools in Henrico County more secure.

Big changes will occur at both Hermitage and Highland Springs High School, where vestibules will be added. That will force anyone entering the school to go directly to the office without having access to classrooms.

Some parents and students say they welcome the changes and anything that will make schools more secure.
