Precipitation levels in good shape

After a very dry 2012, we have definitely turned the corner precipitation-wise since the first of the year thanks to multiple storm systems.

Notice how Virginia down to Louisiana, and back up to the Great Lakes, are the only areas that have seen a surplus this yearprecip1

A decent portion of the huge 2012 deficit has improved since then, as shown by the precipitation surplus for January 2013:

Some of the long-term computer models suggest enough occasional storms over the coming weeks to keep the surplus levels in tact.
