HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – Police charged a Henrico grandfather after his seven-year-old grandson brought a gun to Ratcliffe Elementary School last week. Harvey Pleasant, 78, was issued a summons and released on the class 3 misdemeanor of allowing a child access to a weapon, according to Henrico Police spokeswoman Lt. Linda Toney.

In aninterview last week with CBS 6 reporter Jon Burkett, Pleasant said he was surprised his grandchild found the weapon.

“I didn’t think he knew where the gun was at,” he said.

Pleasant told school officials he’d suffered a stroke in July and could not drive to the school to pick up his grandchild that day.

No one was injured in the Feb. 4 incident.

The child told Burkett he did not threaten anyone with the gun, however school officials said the student did threaten several classmates while on the school bus.
