RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) — A House committee has passed a bill, which for the first time, would keep the name of someone with a concealed handgun permit private.

The legislation would prevent a court clerk from releasing the name, or any other personal information, contained in the concealed permit application.

The bill now goes to the full House.

If approved, this would be a major change to Virginia gun laws. Right now, anyone who wishes to can obtain a list of Virginians with concealed weapon permits.
