FAIRFAX, Va. (WTVR) — A Virginia mom will find out this week if her fight to get a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel out of her child’s school has been successful.

Beloved by Toni Morrison is commonly taught in many high school English classes in the Commonwealth.

But the Washington Postreports Laura Murphy, a Fairfax mother of four, wants it banned because she thinks the details about murder and sexuality in the book are too explicit.

“It’s not about the author or the awards,” Murphy told the newspaper. “It’s about the content.”

Murphy said she wanted the book banned because her oldest son had nightmares after reading it for his AP English class.

The school board had put of its decision six months ago to allow school board members time to read the novel.

What do you think? Have you read the book? Should it be banned from Virginia high schools? Take our poll and leave a comment below.
