CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WTVR)--Police say a man in his early 20’s is impersonating an officer.

His car wasn't marked but he didn't hesitate to tell another young man he was an undercover cop and threatened to arrest him.

A young man coming to visit a friend at his Highberry Woods Terrace home was taking the back roads to Woodlake in western Chesterfield County.  That’s where police say he encountered a bizarre few minutes.

“We called police and they came quickly.  I figured it was the best thing to do," said Rich Babbitt, the father of the friend the young man was coming to visit.

Babbitt says at the foot of the Woolridge Road bridge a minor road-rage incident took place.  His son's friend driving across the bridge started jockeying with another driver. The two went back and forth for about half a mile.  The rest of the story ended up in Babbitt's front yard.

“The kid got out of the car and said ‘I'm an undercover cop and I'm going to arrest you. I'm going to call my sergeant because you are driving too crazy,’" said Babbitt.

By the time Babbitt came outside to see what was going on, the cop impersonator had already left.

Police say impersonating an officer is a misdemeanor.  However, if convicted, the suspect can certainly face jail time.

“No tag number.  It was a black looking Kia,” said Babbitt. “ I think it was an isolated incident where someone got angry, impulsive and out of control."

Babbitt says his son’s friend has seen the suspect driving through Woodlake before.

Police are asking you to call Crimesolvers at 748-0660 if you have information that can help find him.
