Judge denies trial delay request in Trayvon Martin murder case

Zimmerman apologizes as judge sets $150,000 bond

ORLANDO, Fl. (CNN) — A Florida judge denied a request by George Zimmerman’s attorney to delay his trial in the killing of Trayvon Martin.

The former neighborhood watch volunteer is charged with second degree murder for shooting the unarmed teen last February. Zimmerman claims he shot Martin in self-defense after the teen attacked him.

Trayvon Martin would have turned 18-years-old Tuesday.

Family and friends sang “Happy Birthday” to Trayvon outside the Seminole County Courthouse before the proceedings began.

Zimmerman’s trial will begin as scheduled on June 10th.
