An 8-year-old German shepherd who has saved hundreds of lives of US military troops got a hero's welcome in Universal City, California, on Sunday.

Lucca and her handler, Marine Corps Sergeant Christopher Willingham, are on a cross-country tour, promoting the new Military Working Dog Teams National Monument.

While on deployment in Afghanistan, Lucca was sniffing for explosives when a booby-trap device went off, and she lost her left paw.

Sergeant Willingham and Lucca's tour ends in October at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, where the Dog Teams National Monument will have a permanent home.
