RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) — Legislation that would have provided in-state tuition to the children of some illegal immigrants has been killed by lawmakers at the General Assembly.

The Senate Education Committee shot down both Senator Donald McEachin’s bill and a similar one drafted by Senator Adam Ebbin by a party line vote Thursday.

If passed, the measure would’ve provided in-state tuition rates for high school graduates who lived in the state and whose families paid taxes for at least three years, despite their parents legal status.
