RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Richmond Police Chief Bryan Norwood will not be the next police chief in Raleigh, N.C. Raleigh City Manager announced Thursday that Raleigh's interim chief Cassandra Deck-Brown will get the job.

“Cassandra Deck-Brown is an excellent choice to be the next Chief of Police for the city of Raleigh,” Chief Norwood said in a statement Thursday afternoon. “I wish her all the best as she leads that impressive agency into the future.”

Raleigh City Manager Russell Allen said Deck-Brown demonstrated professionalism, commitment and dedication to the citizens of Raleigh.

“I am confident she will both continue and build upon the department’s record of public safety effectiveness and community outreach,” he added in a statement.

Last week Chief Norwood was in Raleigh fielding questions from city leaders about his background.

Despite today's announcement, Chief Norwood's future with the Richmond Police Department remains uncertain. Richmond Mayor Dwight Jones has not given the chief a full vote of confidence.

“Richmond is my love,” Chief Norwood said to Mark Holmberg following his job interview in Raleigh. “I’ve been there for four years and if things change, I’ll look forward to coming to Raleigh. If not, I’ll always feel at home in Richmond.”
