RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – A man found dead in a burning apartment last month was the victim of a homicide, according to Richmond Police. Police said the Medical Examiner’s Office found evidence to rule Walter Boone’s death a homicide. Police have not yet said what evidence the Medical Examiner’s Office uncovered. The reclassification of Boone’s death brings the total number of 2012 homicides in Richmond to 43.

Boone, 77, was found dead in his Cofer Road apartment last month when firefighters forced their way into the burning building.

Police are looking for a woman they said was last seen with Boone. Police called the woman a “person of interest” who they would like to identify and interview.

Police described the woman as a a light-skinned black female, approximately five feet six inches tall, with scars on her right cheek.
