HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - Police are still searching for the man who shot and killed a Henrico County store owner Monday night.

Police identified the victim as Farooq M. Bhimdi, 64, of Glen Allen. Bhimdi owned the Expressway Convenience Store where he was shot and killed.

By Tuesday morning, a makeshift memorial was set up outside the store.

"The guy was a nice guy, and he didn't deserve that," Bobby Morrow said.

The Expressway Convenience Store is on Byron Street and Mechanicsville Turnpike, near the busy Laburnum Avenue intersection in eastern Henrico County.

Police received a 911 distress call around 9:30 p.m.

A police source said Bhimdi was shot multiple times after the gunman demanded money, but Bhimdi refused to hand it over.

Police described the suspect as a black male between 18-20 years old, weighing around 140 and wearing a brown jacket.

Morrow does not believe the suspect is from the area.

"Anybody that did that probably does not know him at all because they know he kept a monitor in there all the time," Morrow said.  "I'm just sad this happened.  It was a great loss to our community and I know for sure a lot of people are going to miss him."

If you have information that could help police, call 804-501-5000 or Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
