RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR)--A Richmond woman is gathering signatures for a petition asking the city's police chief to stay.

Rosetta Torrence presented over 200 signatures on Monday to city council.
She said if Richmond City Police Chief Brian Norwood left the city, it would be devastating for so many people.

CBS 6 news traveled to Raleigh, North Carolina last week, where Norwood was interviewed to be that city's next chief.

Chief Norwood said Richmond is his first love but he's looking elsewhere because reportedly the mayor wants to pick his own chief.

Torrence said she hopes the mayor and the chief can work out any conflict they have with one another.

“Seniors on my street were terrified. Now we're in peace. He made us feel safer. Gave us confidence to join together as a community. We love him,” she said before the council.

“…The best of the best--and it's our loss if anyone takes him,” said City Council member Reva Trammell

Torrence says she expects to present council with 2,000 signatures supporting Chief Norwood in the next week or two.
