Washington, D.C. (WTVR)–The Senate has approved a bill that will give more than $50 billion dollars in aid to states battered by Superstorm Sandy.

The measure passed Monday in a 62-to-36 vote.

Senator Chuck Schumer, from New York–one of the hardest hit states–says the money will be a huge help.

“Ninety-one days ago, Sandy struck a body blow against New York state and New Jersey and, today, we finally struck back. The passage of this bill will mean money for homeowners who lost everything and need to rebuild, small businesses whose doors are still closed but who must reopen and protections for our coastlines and vital infrastructures to make sure the next time a strong storm strikes we are not hit that hard.”

The bill was passed in the House nearly two weeks ago.
