LAS VEGAS — A woman who used the dating services of Match.com has filed a $10 million lawsuit after she said one of her “matches” nearly killed her.
According to KVVU, Mary Kay Beckman went on a few dates with Wade Ridley, but when Beckman broke it off, the man ambushed her.
Her attorney said in January of 2011, Ridley stabbed Beckman dozens of times in the face, smashed her head with a rock, stomped her face and left her for dead.
KVVU reported Ridley was sentenced for murder in Arizona after killing a different woman he met through the site. He died behind bars.
Beckman’s attorney told KVVU Match.com does not warn its users of the dangers, and that subscribers have a false sense of security.
“What happened to Mary Kay Beckman is horrible, but this lawsuit is absurd. The many millions of people who have found love on Match.com and other online dating sites know how fulfilling it is. And while that doesn’t make what happened in this case any less awful, this is about a sick, twisted individual with no prior criminal record, not an entire community of men and women looking to meet each other,” Match.com said in a statement to KVVU.
