RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – A fast-moving upper storm system called a “Clipper” sped toward us from the northwest Wednesday, and has been swinging over the northern half of Virginia overnight into early Thursday morning. This clipper is quite typical for us, producing relatively low snowfall totals of less than three inches.

Snowfall into the deep, dry air-mass that settled in place this week for us is the powdery kind, like flour, which is totally different from the wet, sticky snow from the end of last week.

Ground temperatures are definitely cold enough to support any snow that falls at your location staying on the ground and not melting. In the Richmond Metro, expect an inch or less of accumulation. In the Advised area north and northeast of Richmond, expect some isolated spots with as much as three inches of snow. Despite limited moisture, liquid to snow ratios are running higher, allowing little liquid equivalent amounts to produce higher, dry fluffy snowfall totals.
