RICHMOND, Va (WTVR) - With road work crews focusing on keeping the roads free of snow and ice, we may get relief on the construction front today. Most or likely all construction will be suspended. Please drive defensively and plan ahead. Here's a few tips to help you along your way today and tomorrow:
- - Stick to major roadways if possible. Snowplows and crews will likely tackle those first. This means more favorable conditions.
- Stay towards the middle of the road. Water, Snow and Ice usually get thicker and more dangerous on the shoulders and outside lanes.
- Leave earlier. Problems arise more during bad conditions and you're more likely to encounter problems. More time allows you to deal calmly with any issues and drive more cautiously.
- Allow extra braking room. In conditions such as snow and ice it can cause you two or three times as long to come to a complete stop. Keep this in mind through tomorrow morning.
