RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – A Richmond judge sentenced the man who shot and killed another man in Shockoe Bottom to 20 years in prison.

Kevin Cunningham, 23, pleaded no contest to second-degree murder and a use of a firearm charge last fall. In exchange for the plea, Cunningham was to serve no more than 21 years in prison.

In April 2010, Cunningham shot and killed Jeremy Uzzle after a fight outside the Have a Nice Day Cafe nightclub.

During Tuesday’s hearing, Cunningham read a statement to the Uzzle family.

“I know you may hate me now but I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me,” he said.
