(CNN) — Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Sundance comedy, “Don Jon’s Addiction,” is on track to be seen by more than festival attendees.
Reports out of the festival hinted Monday that the film, which has been racking up positive buzz, had been purchased by Relativity Media for $4 million. Gordon-Levitt didn’t offer specifics, but he did confirm in a video for his website, hitRecord, that a deal is definitely in place.
“I’m here at Sundance, and the good news is the movie that I wrote and directed, ‘Don Jon’s Addiction,’ just closed a deal, a really great big deal for it to come out all over the country and all over the world,” Gordon-Levitt said. “I couldn’t be happier, and it’s what I always wanted for this movie. I always intended it to be for a big, popular mass audience, and that’s what’s going to happen, it looks like.”
As we noted in our round-up of Sundance news, Gordon-Levitt stars in “Don Jon’s Addiction” as a guy who’s obsessed with Internet porn to the point he thinks it beats the real thing – even though, as a “Don Juan”-esque character, he’s not hurting for that, either.
His worldview is challenged when he meets a woman (played by Scarlett Johansson) who’s more interested in a traditional form of courtship. Tony Danza and Julianne Moore also star.
Said Variety in a review, “Only an actor as appealing as Joseph Gordon-Levitt could pull off the role he creates for himself in ‘Don Jon’s Addiction,’ an endearingly masturbatory look at how a culture of objectification erodes our capacity for intimacy.”
