Woman arrested for year’s first homicide

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Richmond Police detectives arrested a woman for the city’s first homicide of the year. Jamora E. Williams, 29, of Southlawn Avenue, is charged with malicious wounding.

That charge is expected to be upgraded, according to an email from Richmond police.

Police said Williams stabbed her boyfriend, 32-year-old Elbert Lynch, around 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20.

Two days later Lynch died from the wound, police said.

Detectives asked anyone with any information about this crime to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000 or text Crime Stoppers anonymously by texting 274637, using the key word “ITip” followed by your tip.

In 2012, there were 42 homicide reported in Richmond. Thirty-nine killings were recorded two years ago. In 2010, Richmond homicide investigators were called to the scene 43 times.

Overall, when taking a look at the last decade Richmond’s murder rate has dropped dramatically. In 2000, the number was nearly double at 83. The lowest number of murders in Richmond during the 11-year span was recorded in 2008 when 31 people were homicide victims.
