NEW JERSEY (WTVR) - Port Authority officials are saying that the escalator that malfunctioned and began running backwards at a high speed last week is now safe to turn back on.

The escalator was in a train station hit by Hurricane Sandy and flooded with 12 feet of seawater.

Six people were injured when the escalator began running backwards.

All escalators in the New Jersey PATH system have been checked and are running properly.
