RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) — Virginia’s unemployment rate has dropped again according to the latest numbers from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The rate now sits at 5.5 percent; down from 5.6 percent. That’s the lowest rate the Commonwealth has had in four years.

The number has come down even more from December, 2011 when it was 6.1 percent. This is now the third consecutive month that the seasonally adjusted number has dropped.

Currently the national unemployment rate sits at 7.8 percent. For comparison, Maryland has a rate of 6.6 percent, North Carolina, 9.2 percent and West Virginia 7.5 percent.
