CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WTVR)—An urgent search on Friday for a missing boy in Chesterfield County ended before dusk fell and already cold temperatures dropped even more.

The frantic search was for Connor McCartney, a four-feet tall boy, weighing 50-60 pounds.

The father of the 10-year-old boy with high-functioning autism said he has been missing since around 9:30 a.m.Friday morning. The boy was playing outside with a friend at 7:30 a.m. and he came inside for a break. The father hasn't seen him since he went back outside to play.

The boy--wearing blue sweat pants, a white t-shirt and white sneakers--was found safe a few blocks over from his home in the 4000 block of West Terrace, not too far from Chalkley elementary school.

Lieutenant Rich McCullough with Chesterfield Police said that they received a call from the boy's family around noon. He said they originally searched the immediate neighborhood, checking with contacts in the area.

Next, McCullough said they expanded the search parameters.  Aviation support was brought in and a tracking dog was on its way in but young Connor was found.

He was at one of the houses a couple of streets over.

“Connor is doing perfectly fine," said McCullough.
