CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) -- Chesterfield Police released two videos they said show Frankie Pitt stealing cash drawers from local convenience stores over the weekend. A Chesterfield police officer shot and killed Pitt during a traffic stop Sunday morning.

Police said Pitt grabbed the cash register from the Circle K at 10300 Hull Street Road around 2:45 a.m. Sunday. Minutes later police said a Chesterfield officer stopped Pitt on the onramp to southbound Chippenham Parkway from Hull Street Road.

Once he realized Pitt was a suspect in the theft, police said the officer tried to arrest the 45-year-old man. They said Pitt fought back and resisted arrest. While the two struggled, police said the officer shot and killed Pitt.

The investigation into Sunday's officer-invovled shooting is on-going, police said.

Chesterfield Police released a second video of Pitt they said was recorded on Saturday, January 12 - the day before the shooting. In the video, police said Pitt stole the cash register from the Uppy's at 2117 Willis Road.

Earlier this week, Pitt's family asked for more details about what led to his death.

“This is not Frankie,” Frankie Pitt’s fiancé Azzie Robinson said. “To me they are trying to make him out to be a criminal, which he is not.”

Robinson said Pitt, who worked as a truck driver, had enough money for a comfortable life. For that reason, she said the situation does not add up.

“And I’m here, and I’m going to fight for him tooth and nail because I know what kind of person he is,” said Robinson.
