CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – A Canadian man who traveled to Virginia to see a 14-year-old girl he met on Facebook will spend one year behind bars.

Keith Veecock, 20, was originally charged with two counts of use of electronic means for child sex crime and two counts of taking indecent liberties with a child. Two charges were dropped.

On October 25, 2012, Veecock pleaded guilty to computer solicitation of a minor and indecent liberties with a child.

In court Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, Veecock was sentenced to five years on each of the two charges he faced, with four years and six months suspended on each charge.

He will spend a total of one year, six months per charge, in jail.

When that year is up, Veecock, who is from Canada, has an ICE detainer and will be deported back to Canada. He must register as a sex offender and when he returns to Canada he must seek treatment as a sex offender.

Chesterfield Police Lt. Randy Horowitzsaid even though Veecock never touched the child, he did propose the two engage in “indecent acts” and that was enough to justify the charge.

The girl’s parents saw Facebook and text messages between the two and alerted police. The two had been in communication for several weeks, Lt. Horowitz said.

Detectives arrested Veecock when he landed at Richmond International Airport.

Richmond Airport police, U.S. Customs, Homeland Security and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force participated in the arrest.
