CENTENNIAL, Colo. — The judge in the Aurora theater shooting case has ruled that suspect James Holmes will be tried on all counts he faces.

The ruling released late Thursday comes after a preliminary hearing in the case that lasted for two-and-a-half days earlier this week.

Judge William Sylvester ordered that Holmes will continue to be held in jail without bond.

A hearing will take place Friday morning that is now scheduled to be converted to an arraignment for Holmes. An arraignment is a criminal proceeding where the defendant is informed of the charges he faces and he’s asked to enter a plea.

Cameras were supposed to be allowed in the courtroom for the 9 a.m. hearing. Holmes’ defense attorneys filed a motion late Thursday to block cameras from being in the court and to postpone arraignment. The judge will hear arguments about cameras in the court at the opening of the hearing and then make a ruling.

Sylvester said in his ruling Thursday night that while the hearing is converted to an arraignment, he alerted prosecutors that the defense is likely to request a continuance of the arraignment.

Holmes faces 166 charges related to the shooting spree at the Century 16 theaters in Aurora on July 20 that killed 12 people and injured another 58.
