WASHINGTON, D.C. (WTVR) - Same-sex couples will soon be able to marry in one of the nation's most prominent churches -- the Washington National Cathedral.

Often used for presidential funerals and inaugural prayer services, the building is actually a house of worship for the Episcopalian Church. That denomination has a blessing rite that mirrors wedding ceremonies for heterosexual couples.

To wed at the National Cathedral, one member of the couple must be baptized into the Episcopal church, and both must commit to a Christian marriage of "lifelong faithfulness, love, forbearance and mutual comfort."
