FORT GORDON, Ga. The wedding day started off rather typically for bride Jacqueline Durham, as she got ready with her bridesmaid.

Then she double-checked her internet connection.

Sunday, Jan. 6, a Fort Gordon couple tied the knot while the groom was still in Afghanistan, by using the free video conferencing technology known as Skype.

Trey Durham and his army family lined up in Afghanistan while Durham and her family shared the moment from their Hephzibah home.

They've dated for two years and have a daughter on the way. Jacqueline said the idea came from Trey's chief in Afghanistan.

"He told me about it. And he's like what do you think about that; do you want to do that?”

“And I was like, of course. Since we can't be together, it'd make it special," said Jacqueline.

Trey is expected home from Afghanistan early this year.

It's not the first Skype wedding, though it certainly won't be the last. In 2011, a couple used Skypeto marry after the groom fell sick and was quarantined at the hospital.
